The Old Cat

An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it.

Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat. The cat said, \"Do not hit your old servant. I have worked for you for many years, and I would work for you still, but I am too old. Do not be unkind to the old, but remember what good work the old did when they were young.\"

The First Snow

The first snow came.How beautiful it was，falling so silently all day long，all night long，on the mountains，on the meadows，on the roofs of the living，on the graves of the dead. All white save the river，that marked its course by a winding(缠，绕) black line across the landscape(风景，山水画);and the leafless trees，that against the leaden(沉闷的)sky now revealed more fully the wonderful beauty and intricacies of their silence，too，came with the snow，and what seclusion(隔离)! Every sound was muffled(蒙住, 压抑)，every noise changed to some thing soft and more tramping(踏，践) hoofs(蹄)，no more rattling the chiming of sleigh(雪橇)-bells，beating as swift and merrily as the hearts of children.

Three competing store owners rented adjoining shops in a mall. Observers waited for mayhem to ensue.

The retailer on the right put up huge signs saying, \"Gigantic Sale!\" and \"Super Bargains!\"

The store on the left raised bigger signs proclaiming, \"Prices Slashed!\" and \"Fantastic Discounts!\"

The owner in the middle then prepared a large sign that simply stated, \"ENTRANCE\".

AClever Panda

Alittle panda picks up a pumpkin and wants to take it home. But the pumpkin is too big. The panda can’t take it home.

Suddenly she sees a bear riding a bike toward her. She watches the bike. “I know! I have a good idea.” she jumps and shouts happily, “I can roll a pumpkin. It’s like a wheel.”

So she rolls the pumpkin to her home. When her mother sees the big pumpkin, she is surprised, “Oh, my God! How can you carry it home?” the little panda answers proudly, “I can’t lift it, but I can roll it.” Her mother smiled and says，“What a clever girl! Use you heard to do something,”
